July 14, 2006 (Winston-Salem, NC) - Melton Technologies (MTI), a leading provider of software for truck fleets, announces its new Horizon/SQL, the first of many next-generation products coming from Melton Technologies, to be based on the popular Microsoft SQL Server database engine. Horizon/SQL takes the time-proven customer benefits, and enhances them even further in a client/server database with improved security and maintainability.
"Certainly, the SQL Server engine offers a more centralized approach to where the information is kept," explained Andrew MacNeill, Project Manager on Horizon/SQL. "But this new product improves on what already makes Horizon a leader with even better flexibility and functionality. Events that used to take minutes now take only seconds. We've consolidated some of the excellent tools directly into the Horizon/SQL product to make it much easier for a company to MBE – “Manage by Exception.”
“The Horizon/SQL product gives Dispatchers tools such as LTL planning and tracing directly on the fleet’s customizable Dispatch board. It also introduces an Advanced Shipment & Fleet Costing module into the product line. The shipment costing module supports custom cost calculations, allowing companies to configure the module to meet their specific needs. The Shipment Costing module supports automatic and manual costs so if they can describe it, it can be automatically calculated on a shipment or other resource at any time or they can add in overhead or administrative costs manually as needed,” explained MacNeill.
